Sealing patio without removing tiles

This terrace also serves as the roof of the living space.
Instead of costly demolition, a durable liquid seal was applied.
executed with SA Baustoffe polyester fleece 120 g/m².

Initial situation

This terrace is a walkable roof surface and also serves as the roof of the living space.

The surface consisted of ceramic tiles. Over time, the underlying waterproofing lost its integrity, allowing moisture to penetrate into the rooms below.

Basically, there were two options:

Option 1:
Complete removal of the tiles, renewal of the waterproofing and re-laying – very time-consuming and expensive.

Option 2 (selected):
Sealing directly onto the existing tiles with a high-quality liquid sealant, reinforced by polyester fleece – without demolition.

Step-by-step implementation

Step 1: Apply the first layer of sealant

In the first step, the existing tile surface is carefully prepared and coated with the first layer of liquid waterproofing.

This layer ensures a uniform base seal and forms the basis for further construction.
Transitions, edges and connections are particularly critical and must be completely covered.

Step 2: Embed polyester fleece

The polyester fleece is inserted into the still fresh first sealing layer.

The fleece is carefully unrolled and pressed down evenly with a roller.,
until it is completely saturated with the sealing material.
This creates a reinforced, particularly tear-resistant sealing layer.

Step 3: Apply the second layer of sealant.

After embedding the polyester fleece, a second layer of liquid sealant is applied.

This layer completely saturates the fleece and covers it entirely.
This creates a homogeneous, seamless and permanently waterproof sealing layer.

Step 4: Final protective coating

Finally, a special top coating was applied.,
which ensures the long-term protection of the seal.

This layer increases resistance to mechanical wear,
UV radiation and weather influences, making the area permanently usable.

Why use 120 g/m² polyester fleece for liquid waterproofing?

Polyester fleece with a basis weight of 120 g/m² offers the optimal combination of flexibility, stability and impregnation capacity for high-quality Liquid waterproofing outdoors.

In contrast to conventional nonwovens of the same basis weight, this SA Building Materials Polyester Fleece 120 g/m² additionally sewn with threads.
This stitching increases the Tensile and tear strength clearly and gives the geotextile exceptionally high mechanical strength – a crucial advantage when Terraces, balconies and roof areas.

The sewing process simultaneously creates a targeted perforation the non-woven structure.
This perforation improves the Impregnation with liquid sealants, so that the material is completely embedded and a homogeneous, crack-bridging sealing layer is created.

The result is a highly resilient, durable and certified sealing fleece, whose material properties have been confirmed by independent tests (SGS).

Note regarding roll width:
The appropriate roll width depends on the area of application and the details on site – e.g. surfaces, connections or penetrations.

Crack-bridging & flexible

Reliably absorbs movements of the substrate and reduces stress cracks in the waterproofing – ideal for permanently stressed terraces and balconies.

Sewn and particularly tear-resistant

The additional stitching ensures exceptionally high tensile and tear strength and increases the service life of the entire sealing structure.

Perfectly soakable

The perforated structure allows for complete impregnation with liquid sealants and ensures a safe, homogeneous sealing layer.

The result: Durable and reliable sealing for terraces

Designed to be permanently waterproof

The seal forms a closed, seamless surface that reliably protects against penetrating moisture.
The protective function is retained even with prolonged contact with water.

Walkable and mechanically robust

The surface is designed for walkable terraces and can withstand mechanical stresses and weather conditions.
Ideal for heavily used outdoor areas.

Without demolishing the existing tiles

The existing surface is preserved – no costly demolition, less dirt and significantly less time required.
The sealing is done directly on the existing surface.

If moisture penetrates through the terrace

Moisture in the interior

Water penetrates through joints or connections and causes moisture damage below the terrace or roof surface.

Demolition is not an option

Completely removing the existing surface would be complex, expensive, and involve considerable mess.

A permanent solution without dismantling is sought.

A sealant that works directly on the existing surface and provides long-term protection.

The right solution for this application

For accessible terraces and roof areas, it has proven effective SA Building Materials Polyester Fleece 120 g/m² as reliable and durable reinforcement Proven effective for liquid waterproofing – Ideal when a permanent solution without demolition is required.
